Camping Trip

We took the Young Men to the Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge this past weekend. It was so cold! I'm not sure how cold it actually got, but I know it was below freezing because any water we had outside was frozen by morning. It was pretty cold last week and we knew it wasn't going to warm up much, but the boys hadn't been camping in a long time and they really wanted to go.

Now, the whole point of going to the refuge is getting up early in the morning to see the sandhill cranes, Canadian geese, and other birds. Because we stayed up kinda late Friday night and it being so cold, nobody wanted to get out of bed that morning. By the time we woke up, got out of bed and got a fire started most of the birds had flown away. Just to make the camp out that much more miserable, the wind started kicking up as we were putting up our tents! The camp site the refuge has set up has no trees around it, so we were pretty much exposed to the elements. Darn elements! I've decided to chalk this one up as a learning experience.

The wind really was blowing a lot harder than what it looks like in these pictures!!
